FLOODING deluged the west coast of Scotland yesterday after a third day of heavy rain.
Emergency services were working to pump water up to 2ft deep from streets in Ayrshire, while parts of Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire were also affected by torrential rain.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said flooding was affecting an 800 metre-stretch of Main Street in Newmilns, Ayrshire. This had been caused by a nearby burn overflowing and a number of houses were affected.

Strathclyde Police warned drivers to avoid the Johnstone and Clarkston areas of Renfrewshire, where some roads were closed. Routes were also affected in the Bellshill Lanarkshire.

About eight homes in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire, were affected by up to 12ft of water after a burn burst its banks.
