I have never been so interested, excited and enthused by a US election.

Congratulations to President Elect Obama - the world welcomes you to office.

Also, well done to John McCain for being so gracious in defeat. His speech last night, urging the US to get behind the new President, was a credit to the man. In any other year, McCain would have had a chance and he probably would have been a good President. But he has been blown away by the phenom that is Obama, and the fresh enthusiasm and hope that he will bring to the US and the world.

I sincerely hope not. Or does the Scotsman know something that we don't?
