Toyota Prius car sales top 1m mark

WORLDWIDE sales of Toyota's Prius petrol-electric hybrid car have topped one million.
Toyota yesterday said it has sold 1.028 million Prius cars since they first went on sale in Japan in 1997 as the world's first mass-produced hybrid.

#1 - agree completely. Whilst the Prius might be cheaper to run around town, it is hardly going to put much fire in your belly.

Also, 1 million units sold mean that a lot of Prius batteries will have to disposed of one day.

OMG!!! The thought of all those eco-friendly batteries with their eco-friendly chemicals in them being dumped in various scrap yards around the world is really heart-warming!

Better buying a Polo Blue Motion which gets a lot more mpg. I'm not a VW salesman. The batteries in the Prius are likely to form the basis for major pollution.

A Toyota Prius 5dr hatchback 0-60 mph in 10.9 seconds, CO2 emissions 104g/km and 65 mpg from £18,345 or my Citroen C2 1.4 HDi 0-62 mph 13.5 seconds, CO2 emissions 108g/km, 69mpg cost me £9,905.

The Prius doesn’t sound very cost effective to me and I get more miles per gallon. Although I would rather have a BMW 320d.

#5 - I'm not a Jaguar salesman either, but I definately agree with you.

Apart from anything else, you don't get mulberry coloured leather and picnic tables in the back of a Prius.

A Jaguar XKR, two-door coupe or convertable (whichever you choose), 4.2 litre V8 supercharged. 400bhp, 0-60 in about 5 secs dead. About 22mpg on a run, depending if you nail it or not. Top end of 155mph with electronic restriction. Get that removed and it will probably do about 170mph.

Don't know what CO2 emmissions---don't really care. Cost about £71,000 new for the coupe. All the luxuries including full leather interior, sat-nav, air-con, bluetooth, cruise. Sports suspension including active dampers and adaptive power steering.

Brilliant for enthusiastic driving on twisty roads, relaxing round town, easy long distance car, loves autobahns, looks great and goes like stink. What more could you need?

Not exactly advocating you rush out and buy said VW Polo! Just that it will achieve more economical motoring than the Prius will if that's what your aim in life is. I agree it would drive like a donkey cart compared to the Jag. Although I don't give a monkey's for the CO2 brigade my fairly heavy Honda CR-V still gets 41 mpg and although not quite as fast as the Jag is satisfying to drive. Irks the greenies too.

A Bugatti Veyron with its Quad-turbocharged DOHC 64-valve W16 engine is a wee bit out of my price range, so I may opt for a Jaguar XKR, two-door coupe anything to irk a greeny!
