Celtic-Rangers title decider: How the Scottish Premiership title could be won at Celtic Park on May 11

Old Firm derby could decide title depending on results between now and then

Either Celtic or Rangers could clinch the cinch Scottish Premiership title in the final Old Firm derby of the league season depending on results between now and then.

The Glasgow rivals will meet at Celtic Park on Saturday, May 11, in a 12.30pm kick-off live on Sky Sports following confirmation of the post-split fixtures published by the Scottish Professional Football League on Tuesday.

The match is sure to have a significant bearing on the title race with the sides locked in a head-to-head battle at the top of the table as the division splits into a top six and bottom six for the final five fixtures. The outcome of the championship could even be decided on the day.

Celtic currently lead their Glasgow rivals four points, but Rangers can reduce the deficit to just a single point with a victory over Dundee at Dens Park in their game in hand on Wednesday night with the twice-postponed fixture set to go ahead at the third time of asking.

Philippe Clement’s side will be looking to bounce back following their shock 3-2 defeat away to second bottom Ross County on Sunday which has handed the initiative back to Celtic, although the Ibrox side can still win the title if they win all their all remaining matches.

However, should Rangers slip up again, then the destination of the title will be out of their hands. Indeed, if Rangers lose just one of their next three league matches – away to Dundee and St Mirren then home to Kilmarnock – then Celtic can wrap up the title with a victory at Parkhead on May 11 providing they win their two preceding league matches away to Dundee and home to Hearts as they would move seven points clear with six left to play for.

Likewise, if Rangers draw two of their next three games, and Celtic win both of theirs, then Brendan Rodgers’ side can win the title by beating their arch-rivals on home soil on matchday 36.

There is also a chance that Rangers could win the title with a victory at Parkhead – in front of no away fans – but for that to happen Celtic would need to take no more than one point from their next two leagues games with the Gers taking a maximum nine points between now and then.
