BRIAN Kerr has conceded Hibernian let their fans down with their early exit from the Intertoto Cup this month but believes they can begin to repay them by matching up to the superstars of Barcelona at Murrayfield tonight.
The midfielder is relishing the prospect of sharing a pitch with some of the world's most illustrious footballing names and is hopeful the glamour friendly will prove a more valuable part of Hibs' pre-season preparations than their ill-fated and shor
t-lived European adventure.

In hindsight, Kerr feels the 4-0 aggregate defeat to Swedish side Elfsborg in the Intertoto Cup did little for either the morale of the Hibs players or the mood of their supporters.

"It's been a weird pre-season for us," said the Scottish international. "We were thrown in at the deep end with the Intertoto games and, looking back at them now, we probably sold our own fans short a wee bit there.

"You could understand the fans being as disappointed as they were, because it was a chance to get into the Uefa Cup after missing out on it through our league position at the end of last season. But as our manager said before we played Elfsborg, we were never going to be ready for those games and from that point of view, you have to ask if it was worth it.

"But from a fitness point of view, it should have helped and in the time we have spent since losing to Elfsborg, I think we have all felt much fitter and better in terms of confidence. We are all really looking forward to playing Barcelona and we have to go out and give a good account of ourselves for the supporters."

While Barcelona's presence in Scotland has become less of a novelty over the past year, Kerr believes Hibs fans should still grab the opportunity to see players such as Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry in the flesh. "They don't come any better than those guys," he said.

"It hadn't been looking too good in terms of ticket sales, although it seems to have picked up a bit over the past few days. I just hope there is a decent crowd inside Murrayfield because you don't want to play in a poor atmosphere.

"It is a game which deserves a big crowd. I don't think you could ever get sick of watching guys like Henry and Messi and any chance you get to see them, you should take it if you can.

"From the players' point of view, if we perform well, then it could do wonders for our confidence for the new season. If we can do things well against some of the best players in the world, then we will go into the SPL knowing we should be able to do well against so-called lesser players."

Manager Mixu Paatelainen, meanwhile, has hinted Hibs are ready to strengthen their team with new signings.

Paatelainen claimed there have been developments in his player search, and an announcement might be made before tonight's Murrayfield clash.

The Finn has only added full-back David van Zanten this summer, although former Chelsea midfielder Joe Keenan and ex-Gretna forward Fabian Yantorno have been training with the club.

Paatelainen said: "There have been developments and hopefully soon we can make some announcements."

KingKenny - this is Kerr's Motherwell form. That's why the fans were laughing at him all the way out of Fir Park. If the guy put as much effort into his game as he does talking to the press, he would be a world beater.

I've not seen a lot of Kerr in action - but then who has....
what I have seen was pitiful though. Why Hibs persist with him is beyond me.
He's good at talking to the press though - last season he said he was going to put in a big effort - that was nice of him..didn't come to much though.
Let him go.

If many of the hibs players played as well as they talked to the press, we would be looking forward to the new season:-)

We desperately need to sign some players in a huge hurry and until that happens we are only going to make up numbers this season.

Sure we'll see loads of "un-seen" work from this 'footballer' tonight.

Get um fckin binned asap mixu.

Apart from the 1st game of last season when he scored a sitter against the yams, what has this guy brought to the team. He tries to play the Barry Crab role and cant even knock 10yrd passes about. When he does, its invariably the wrong one and puts his team mate in trouble.

Couldn't care less what he has to say, am just sorry he's ever got to wear the famous (and original) green and white.

Imposter.

Because its an exhibition (training match) tonight, he will probably do ok. But in real games he has just not got it. Hides from the action (or anticipates where the ball will be but always gets it wrong?).

Kerr has had more than his fair share of chances for Hibs and time and time again he has been really poor. He has only had 1 moment of decency for Hibs and that was 2 minutes into the first game of last season and since then he has been garbage.

Only thing he seems to be good at is talking in the press about up and coming matches.

The only problem is how to offload a guy like him, who else would want him.

Kerr let us Hibs fans down every time he pulled the jersey on, apart from one magnificent performance against Celtic away. The days when he got a game because he was Tommy Craig's long lost lovechild from Newcastle are long long over, and he is a player that really needs to take the long walk.

"It's been a weird pre-season for us," said the Scottish international." Brian Kerr? what was it one cap against NZ?? Good old Scotsman eh? like that french defender on trial hailed by the paper as the "french star" ha ha ha ha

It was inevitable that Collins and Craig were always going to pick Kerr, and the first two minutes of the season allowed them to do this too.

Mixu doesn't have the same need and pretty much immediately benched him, I'm hoping because, like us, he couldn't work out what he did.

One thing I have noticed though he's absolutely world-class at passing the ball back to the man who just gave it to him, something that other imposter, Alan O'Brien has also learnt from him.

4-0 after 40mins, looks like a lot imposters on for Hibs tonight.
