VISITORS arriving in Scotland at Prestwick Airport boosted the economy last year by £173 million, a new study says.
The analysis of Scotland's fourth-largest airport also showed it supported nearly 3,000 jobs across the country.

The Ayrshire airport, 30 miles south of Glasgow, handles 2.4 million passengers a year, most of whom fly with Ryanair, which operates 27 routes from there.

Alex Salmond, the First Minister, said yesterday: "Our number one priority as a government is to increase sustainable economic growth. Airports are a key driver in this."

How they arrive at these figures never ceases to amaze me.
They are full of averages and assumptions.
To add to this it fails to tell us how many jobs and how much money is 'exported abroad'.
Come on lets have the total figures not just the ones they 'claim'

I imagine Prestwick Airport management will be concerned about Ryanair now expanding big time at Edinburgh Airport. That's the trouble if you're an airport which relies on just one airline for the vast bulk of your business.
