Published Date: 11 October 2008
PASSENGER numbers at Scotland's three largest airports slumped by 6.6 per cent last month in one of the largest monthly falls for at least a decade.
BAA blamed the collapse of airlines and charter firms such as Zoom and XL, together with falling passenger demand, for the slowdown at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Other airlines have also cut flights due to high fuel costs. Glasgow, Scotland's charter flight centre, was again hit the hardest, with an 11 per cent reduction in passengers to 786,273 compared with September last year.

There is no case for airport expansion.
Once brought into Emmisions trading most inland flights will simply dissappear particularly if High Speed rail services are developed.

We use Glasgow all the time. The staff there are excellent; the flights are generally punctual; great parking right across the road, and really convenient for bus to railway conncections for Queen street.

Where’s Joe ?

And where’s the baa press machine telling us this is exactly the reason we need airport expansion . . . because much of the Labour Party dignitry work for baa - and managed to secure stanstead expansion !

Edinburgh Airport services/routes
are currently restricted but it's still Scotland's busiest most
accessible/convenient.

#3.. Use Aberdeen Airport services or lose them?

#1 - truesleuth : if High Speed rail services are developed.

I would very much welcome a high speed rail service from central Scotland southwards but the key word in your contribution above is "if". My judgement is that it is a huge "IF" due to modern politicians concentrating on the next vote rather than the long-term future of the nation.

#3 - what's wrong with your local airport at Dyce? Far more civilised, and even if the destination isn't available direct from Aberdeen there is usually a connecting flight via Amsterdam or Paris that'll get you there. Where that isn't possible my alternate preference would be to go to Edinburgh, which has the much stronger route network and the nicest airport environment of all the three central belt airports.
