AN URGENT appeal was issued yesterday to try to save one of Scotland's most famous pubs.
The Pennan Inn, in Aberdeenshire, made famous by the film Local Hero, has been closed for more than a year.

Sue Johnson, a local B&B owner, was on the verge of buying the premises, but pulled out at the last minute.

Robert Watson, a local councillor, said: "There has got to be someone out there who's willing to take over this Scottish landmark. It can't stay closed."

Why has it been closed for more than a year? (I'm interested.) Why did the local B&B owner, "on the verge of buying the premises", pull out at the last minute?

Questions, questions. Answers please.

The usual half a story from the Hootsmon.

I notice also on their article on the "new look" for the Hootsmon, there is no mention of blocking comments on stories when there is no justification for doing so. That, as can be seen from today's selection, is obviously going to continue.

The Hootsmon is in danger of going down the tubes, and a so-called "new look" won't make a hate of difference as long as they continue their biased attitude in favour of the New Labour Sleaze and Corruption Party and their continued slant against the SNP. Is this bias a direct result of their staffing policies? Check that one out Mr. Editor.

Could the difficulty in finding a buyer be related to the global credit crunch?

Or could it be that the Pennan Inn is right in the path of the landslides which afflicted the village a few months ago?

Yes - Bien E, Bien, I think you've hit the nail on the head there! The floods and landslides did a lot of damage. If you have ever driven down to the sea front from the main road above Pennan Inn you will know how steep an incline it is! It could be a very costly mistake to spend money there - buyer beware - get a full survey done - What guarantees has the local council given?
