'Speaker must quit' says MP

AN MP yesterday called for Michael Martin, the House of Commons Speaker, to quit over the parliamentary expenses row – the first to make such public criticism.
Conservative MP Douglas Carswell said Mr Martin should set a date for his departure and be replaced by someone "who understands that there is a problem with Westminster politics".
Many MPs are thought to be privately unhappy with the way the furore over MPs' claims has been handled by the authorities in the wake of the Derek Conway scandal.
