Nobel winners take economic prize for central bank research

FINN Kydland of Norway and Edward Prescott of the United States won the Nobel economics prize yesterday for research laying the basis for more independent central banks.
Mr Kydland, 60, who teaches in the US, said colleagues had joked about him winning. "But I never paid any attention and I certainly was not prepared for anything to happen today," he said.
