Prisoner gets extra time for assaults

A PRISONER with a history of violence, who attacked another inmate and prison officer while on remand at Saughton for a string of assaults, has been given a 14-year extended sentence.

David Hollywood, 42, was told by judge Lady Clark of Calton at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday that the custodial period of the sentence was eight years, followed by six years under supervised release.

The sentence runs consecutive to one of six-and-a-half years imposed in May last year for the previous assaults.

Hollywood was found guilty earlier this year of attacking prisoner Paul Robertson in a cell with a plastic knife, which had its handle sharpened, assaulting prison officer Stephen McNelly, 50, to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement, and to two charges of being in possession of the weapons.
