MOTHERWELL are to sign Celtic defender John Kennedy on a short-term loan. The 24-year-old is in Austria with Motherwell on a pre-season training camp and will sign a deal to join the club until the end of December.
"He looks strong and fit. We can offer him the chance to play in Europe (the Uefa Cup]," Motherwell manager Mark McGhee told BBC Sport. Celtic's Jim O'Brien is also set to join McGhee's side, but on a permanent basis. He is also in Austria, with a
view to agreeing a deal.
Kennedy has recently returned to full fitness after damaging his knee against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League last November.
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is thought to be keen for Kennedy to get more games and feels the player will benefit from a short-term move.
McGhee says he plans to assess the value of the player over the next week and decide what kind of fee the club should offer Celtic for his services.
Scotland Under-21 winger O'Brien has found it difficult to break into the first team at Celtic and is eager for a move to following loan spells at Dunfermline and Dundee United.
"He has realised he has a better chance of playing regular first team football elsewhere," McGhee said. O'Brien added: "It would be a great move if I could come here ]Motherwell]. My future is up to the manager and Scott Leitch and what they think of me. That is why I am here, so they can have a close look at what I've got to offer. Just how much I impress is down to me and I obviously want to create a positive impression.."
