THE government aims to guarantee mortgage-backed securities to revitalise the moribund mortgage market.
The plan is based on the main recommendation of a report published yesterday into the mortgage market authored by former head of HBOS, Sir James Crosby. He says mortgage lenders should be invited to bid for about £100 billion of government guarantees over the next two years.
