Sir Alan Peacock is perfectly correct in his assertion that the Scottish Government "should refuse to accept that Unesco has a right to have its own proposals imposed upon us" (Debate & Opinion, 26 August).
However, in the case of the designation of the world heritage site on the New Town and the decision by Unesco to have second thoughts about the matter, I would propose that the opinion of Unesco is much nearer the mark than that of the developers and planners who seem intent on the desecration of our city.
