Anna Paterson (Debate & Opinion, 18 November) is correct in regard to Sir Ian Wood's proposal to fill in the low-lying Union Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen and transform the site into a square that would be a combination of a grand Italian piazza and a miniature version of New York's Central Park. Such a proposal, not least the comparisons to the Big Apple and Italy, is so daft as to be almost incomprehensible.
Would anyone in their right mind, other than, possibly, the vandals of Edinburgh City Council, give any serious consideration to the infilling of Princes Street Gardens to construct similar? Of course not.
