Scots sided with French

Jeremy Godwin (Letters, 18 November) rightly remarks that it was the English rather than the British who burned Joan of Arc. At that time the Scots were on the French side. Indeed Joan entered Orleans when its siege ended, according to French records, to the tune we now know as Scots Wha Hae, which the French military still use on ceremonial occasions as the March of the Soldiers of Robert Bruce – a title alluding to the use of that tune by the Scots army at Bannockburn in 1314.
