BIRMINGHAM manager Alex McLeish has revealed he is still trying to sign Celtic defender Bobo Balde before the transfer window closes.

The 32-year-old has been told he can leave Celtic on a free transfer.

McLeish said: "Bobo's on international duty with Guinea at the moment so we can't take things any further until he gets back. But we are hopeful a deal could be done."

Whilst I feel that Big Bobo has been an excellent servant for the club, I feel that he is in danger of tarnishing that image with his course of action. I cannot understand these footballers who feel that its acceptable to sit around and draw thens of thousands of pounds a week for doing hee-haw. Wish my employers would be so generous. Time to move on Bobo. You leave with our gratitude and thanks.

Second that story about Stubbsy, thepundit. Sad to hear when a career is terminated early. Maybe a testimonial is in the offing. Would be nice. He was a big part of Wim the Tim's team that stopped them at 9-in-a-row and for that us hoops fans will always be thankful. Hail Hail Alan and YNWA.

I would put it more strongly than that.

The rumour is that even if McLeish matches his wages, he still wants a pay off from Celtic.

That story is in the Daily Rearranger today, but I heard it from someone in the know about a week ago.

If it's true, then basically Balde is out to shaft Celtic and should be recognised as an enemy of the club...don't be blinded by sentiment.

Balde was a better servant to your team than Graveson was and he got a fabulous pay off.

Did Graveson deserve it more than Balde??

Thats the first time I have heard that, my understanding was that Chelsea's offer which he agreed to was for 50K a week.

You learn something every day.

Employer agrees to 4 year contract at 30k per week.
Employer unilalterally decides employees services no longer valued.
Employee still entirely committed to delivering his part of the contract.
Employee and family settled in area and enjoying life.

Other employers come along, making offers of less money and obliging employee to move family way from place, school, friends where they are happy to a place they may not like.

Employee decides to honour existing contract and expects employer to honour it too.

And who can blame him????

Bobo has done nothing wrong. He is simply honouring a contract signed in good faith by both parties.

The here lies with Celtic who have tried to force Bobo to take a wage cut and play at a lower level of football by ostrecising him and denying him playing time when in reality he is at least no worse than the current incumbents of Celtic's central defence.
