Taylor Swift surprised fans by revealing that The Tortured Poets Department was in fact a surprise double album with 30 more songs.

Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department has now been released - and it’s a surprise double album from the global phenomenon.

After surprising fans with the album’s announcement during her record-breaking night at the 66th Grammy Awards in February - where she became the first performer to win Album of the Year four times - it makes sense that Swift was keen to keep fans on their toes.

And at 2am Swift’s time, she sent her already excited fans into a frenzy by revealing that there were 15 additional tracks which make up The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology.

On social media, she said: “It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️ I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours. 🤍”

Ahead of The Tortured Poets Department release, Taylor Swift teamed up with Apple Music to engage Swifties in an Easter egg hunt. which saw a new word being hidden among five curated playlists each day.

In addition, Spotify held a pop-up event at The Grove in Los Angeles which took the form of a library - with fresh lyrics hidden in plain sight for fans to dissect and discover.

Swifties will soon also be roped into the “For A Fortnight” challenge which was uncovered by fans around the globe finding QR code art instalments in various cities where the Eras Tour will stop.

Fortnight will be the first TTPD music video

Taylor Swift’s first music video from The Tortured Poets Department will be Fortnight, which features Post Malone.

Set to be released at 1am on Saturday, April 20 in the UK, fans will be treated to a black and white video which appears to reference Frankenstein.

Will Taylor Swift include The Tortured Poets Department on the Eras Tour?

With the Eras Tour set to make stops around the world in 2024 - including Edinburgh - it is currently unclear how Taylor Swift's new album will affect the show.

Released in the middle of Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour, which takes fans on a journey through her career and each of her albums, the show could be expanded to include new material but only time will tell.
