ANDY Murray claims his Madrid final victory against Gilles Simon will count for little in today's Masters Cup meeting with the world No 9 in Shanghai.
Britain's world No 4 beat the Frenchman in straight sets in October to claim his second successive Masters Series shield following July's win in Cincinnati – but he is expecting a tougher test this time around.
Simon had been taken to three sets in all his previous rounds at the Madrid Masters – which included wins over American James Blake, big-hitting Croat Ivo Karlovic and world No 1 Rafael Nadal and three consecutive final-set tie-breaks. "In Madrid he was pretty tired after playing some long, tough matches. But he was still hitting shots that would suggest he obviously had a lot of confidence," said Murray, who also beat Simon at May's Hamburg Masters.
"He's going to be the same (here], I'm sure.
"He's a very good player. If he plays well it's going be a very tough match. If I play badly there's a good chance I'll lose."
Murray beat American Andy Roddick 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 in his first Red Group match on Monday.
