A BRITISH soldier has died in an explosion in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said yesterday.
The soldier, who was serving with the Royal Logistic Corps, was on a routine patrol near Musa Qala in Helmand Province when he was killed.
Lieutenant-Colonel David Reynolds, a Task Force Helmand spokesman, said: "We will ensure that he is never forgotten."
The death takes the number of British service personnel killed in Afghanistan since operations began in October 2001 to 118.
Meanwhile, a US soldier died yesterday in an attack in eastern Afghanistan – making 2008 the deadliest year for US forces in Afghanistan since 2001.
The death brings to 112 the number of US troops killed this year, surpassing last year's record death toll.
