Album review: Reverend and the Makers - A French Kiss In The Chaos
As someone who was disappointed when last year's announcement that "Reverend" John McLure was retiring proved to be yet another self-publicity stunt, this second album from the Makers seems cruel.
Hard Time For Dreamers smacks somewhat of self-fulfilling prophecy, while Manifesto/People Shapers, Silence Is Talking and Hidden Persuaders see McLure positioning himself as the Tom Robinson figure 30 years on from post-punk, politicising the youth of today with pearls such as "Since when did it get passe to be having a say?" On this evidence, since not having a truly memorable tune, nor any discernible original musical talent, probably.
