Home bout for Burns in March
The Coatbridge boxer went on to beat Nicky Cook in Liverpool in July to defend his WBO super-featherweight belt then took the WBO interim lightweight title against Michael Katsidis in London last month. However, the 28-year-old is looking forward to being cheered on by his home fans against an as yet un-named challenger. “This year couldn’t have ended any better than by beating one of the best in the division in Katsidis,” he said. “I proved people wrong when I beat the favourite, Roman Martinez, to win the world title and I proved them wrong again by going up a weight to take on Katsidis.
“Next year I hope that I can take on one of the other title holders and unify the belts.”
