Historical focus
After reading this I turned to the television listings quite certain that there would be a Second World War documentary on one of the channels and, sure enough, the Discovery Channel was showing one titled Hitler: A Profile.
Television has had this ongoing preoccupation with the Second World War since the 1970s. Isn’t it time to draw a line under it?

Hide AdI will admit to having an interest in the subject as history and I do own the boxed DVD sets of Band of Brothers and The Pacific, two excellent and unsurpassable factual dramas that show the war exactly as it was.
These two series are definitely the last word on Second World War television dramas and there is no reason to make any more.
Also, instead of continually raking over the events of 1939–45 the makers of historical documentaries should teach us more about the history of the second half of the 20th century, which is very interesting and more relevant.
